Junior Backend Developer (NodeJS, Python, AWS, Postgres)

We're looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable Junior Backend Developer to join our engineering team and help build robust, scalable backend systems using an AI-first development approach. The ideal candidate is comfortable leveraging AI code generation tools — particularly Claude's coding tools — to accelerate backend development, from API design to database work. You'll bring foundational hands-on skills in Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS, along with a willingness to sharpen your prompt engineering abilities and grow into independently solving backend problems under the guidance of senior engineers.
Responsibilities
- AI-First Backend Development: Use AI code generation tools (especially Claude's coding tools) to build and ship backend services and APIs, starting from well-structured prompts, with support from senior team members
- Prompt Engineering: Develop and apply prompt engineering techniques and strong written English to define requirements and generate quality, production-ready backend code
- Core Backend Engineering: Assist in building and maintaining performant, secure backend services using Node.js and Python
- Database Support: Help design and maintain schemas and queries in PostgreSQL, learning about indexing, optimization, and data integrity along the way
- API Development: Contribute to building clean, well-documented RESTful (or GraphQL) APIs under senior guidance
- Cloud Deployment Support: Assist with deploying and monitoring backend infrastructure on AWS (e.g., Lambda, EC2, API Gateway, S3, RDS)
- Problem Decomposition: Learn to break down backend problems into clear components and translate them into effective prompts for AI-assisted code generation
- Documentation & Communication: Maintain clear documentation of AI-generated code and design decisions; communicate effectively with the team
- Research & Learning: Stay curious about advancements in AI-assisted coding, prompt engineering, backend frameworks, and AWS services
Core Skills Required
Core Technical Skills
- Node.js: Basic to intermediate experience building backend services and APIs
- Python: Familiarity with backend scripting and automation
- PostgreSQL: Understanding of schema design and basic query writing
- AWS: Exposure to Lambda, EC2, API Gateway, S3, RDS, or similar services
- Basic understanding of RESTful (or GraphQL) API design
- Willingness to learn scalable, secure backend system architecture
AI-First Development Skills
- Interest or early hands-on experience using AI code generation tools, especially Claude's coding tools
- Developing prompt engineering skills for generating backend code
- Ability to learn how to break down problems into components for AI-assisted development

- Good written and spoken English

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (4 yrs) or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 1.5–4 years of experience in backend development, with foundational knowledge of Node.js and Python
- An "AI-first" mindset and eagerness to integrate AI tools into your engineering workflow
